Testimonials

Dear Harvey:

I just watched your "How to Teach and Learn the Art of Hitting" tape for the third time, and each time I see it, I learn more.

For the past seven years, I have coached Little League players, and I have tried to teach hitting. Your video cassette presentation is the best tool I have come across to aid in such instruction. I have two other hitting instructional tapes, but I feel that your approach is the definitive instructional approach. I was also very impressed by the professional production of the tape itself.

As I told you on the phone, I plan to send my thirteen year old son to your batting school next year. Even though we live about one hundred miles from you, we will find a way that's what I think about your methods and your approach.

Sincerely,

George A. Duffy

Dear Harvey:

Having purchased your video tape two years ago, and most recently, personally meeting you and listening to your demonstration and presentation, on hitting at our baseball clinic this past January, I wanted to write and tell you what I think of the video and of our success because of the video. "Teaching and Learning the Art of Hitting", is the most complete and informative video I have ever seen on this subject. The most important part of the video tape, was your unique teaching methods that made it easy to understand and to teach others. By utilizing your step by step methods on the batting tee drills, we were able to increase our bat speed and power, hitting to all fields. The illustrations and coaching points are excellent and would enable anyone to improve their teaching on hitting, an area not yet explored except by you.

In the tape, you stress bat speed and power, by developing and understanding the importance of wrist action drills. We all know this is where it all happens. Coaches of all groups from little leagues through college could benefit and learn from this tape.

We have been able to drill our players, and make them better hitters, by following the batting tee progression illustrated in the video film. Our team, during the past season including tournament games, finished second out of 376 teams, with six players batting over .500 and one player averaging .632. I firmly believe the video was directly responsible for the improvements, and it enabled me to better understand and teach the art of hitting. I recommend this video for all coaches of baseball.

Sincerely,

Dear Harvey:

I have found your video tape How to Teach and Learn The Art of Hitting very informative and extremely helpful in teaching players and coaches the mechanics of hitting. As a high school baseball coach I find this information refreshing and innovative.

This video allows both coaches and players to breakdown the hitting process step-by-step. In teaching my players I have already seen marked improvement in balance and bat speed. I also teach a baseball class through a community college and have had several coaches from my area comment on how easy it is to follow this video. This tape is useful to all levels of baseball: youth league, high school and college.

Thank you.

Sincerely,

Bill Whiteley

Dear Harvey,

Just a short letter to let you know that my baseball players enjoyed phenomenal success last year directly as a result of your hitting video.

As you are aware from our previous correspondence I inherited a little league baseball team comprised of 11 and 12 year olds which had gone 5 and 13 the previous year. The team batting average was less than .220 and only one player (my son) hit over .300 (he hit .390).

I reviewed your hitting video and "broke the mechanics down" on paper. I supplemented the mechanics on paper with photo's I had taken of my son in various positions of the stance, swing, etc. Each child was then given a booklet based on your hitting video. Starting with the first practice we reviewed the basic fundamentals of hitting according to Harvey Krupnick. We continued this review until all of the players were intimately familiar with the fundamentals as well as the language. Additionally, each player was instructed to review his booklet at home to further enhance his hitting fundamentals.

The baseball team went from a 5 and 13 record to an undefeated record of 18 and 0. The team batting average went from .220 to .455. My son's batting average was .700 (42 for 60). More importantly the hits for every player were not cheap. The majority of the hits were "line-drives" with power. All 12 ballplayers were a threat at the plate an hit with authority.

Something also occurred that I never envisioned. Coaching became much easier not only during practice but during a game as well. Whenever I notice that a player was doing something incorrectly I merely used your pre-designated language and the player immediately knew what I was talking about. The only thing I did when my kids were hitting was to "take cover" like everyone else because balls were flying all over the place.

I can't thank you enough Harvey for providing my players (and their parents) with the most enjoyable baseball year they have known.

Sincerely,

Raymond A. Perkins

BASEBALL
HOW TO TEACH AND LEARN THE ART OF HITTING.(Video)

By Harvey Krupnick. 68 minutes. $24.95.

An outstanding high school coach who runs a batting school on the side. Krupnick has evolved a distinctive hitting style that combines the absolutes of balance, stride and weight-shift with a leveling of the bat (above the hands) and quick wrists. Indeed, he calls his system "wrist hitting" (though it is a lot more that that).

The video puts it all together with emphasis on progression, detail, and repetition. Each facet of the swing is taught through a sound and interesting drill, until the whole swing is imbedded in muscle memory. The author then shows how to adjust the stroke for the curve ball and hitting to the opposite field.

Krupnick demonstrates everything he preaches, with three of his high school kids and a Little Leaguer serving as auxiliary demonstrators. Each does his teacher proud, exhibiting a smooth, powerful and quick stroke that has obviously been ingrained through masterly teaching.

What better endorsement of a hitting style is there than kids with picture swings?

VIDEO RATING GUIDE FOR LIBRARIES

HOW TO TEACH AND LEARN THE ART OF HITTING
Live action. Harvey Krupnick's batting School. Copyright 1991. released 1993. 68 min. Color. $24.95

AUDIENCE: Jr.High to Adult

Successful high school baseball coach Harvey Krupnick teaches coaches and players the secrets of wrist hitting in this excellent video. Krupnick covers all techniques a player should know to hit well. In a very well-organized and efficient fashion, a lot of useful information is packed into this video, which every baseball coach and player will want to see.

Krupnick begins by outlining what he will cover in the video, and if the viewer wishes to jump ahead to a particular bit of instruction, this is possible by using the VHS inpoint counter. This feature could be very helpful to coaches using the video in an instructional setting.

Krupnick has excellent credentials for teaching hitting techniques; he and his teams have won numerous awards. He also seems to be well suited to making such videos. He is not one to waste time: he gets right to business, and as a result he squeezes a lot into this video's 68 minutes. The audio is excellent and the video is also well planned: Krupnick is careful to turn and show techniques from different angles when necessary. Players on his high school team in Boston are featured in much of the program.

This was obviously not an expensive video to make, but it is very well done and meets its instructional goals very nicely. This video should be considered by any school, public, or academic library serving a baseball-playing clientele (in other words, just about every library in America). Experienced players and novices alike can benefit from this video. Highly recommended.
